"Eyes Front"
In The Gospel of Luke 17:32–33, Jesus says:
“Remember Lot’s wife. Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it.”
This passage refers back to the story of Lot's wife in Book of Genesis 19. When God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot’s family was warned not to look back as they fled. Lot’s wife looked back longingly and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Meaning of Luke 17:32–33
Jesus uses this example to teach about commitment and spiritual priorities:
“Remember Lot’s wife”
This is a warning against clinging to the old life, worldly attachments, or disobedience when God calls for decisive action.
“Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it”
Trying to save oneself through selfishness, fear, comfort, or attachment to worldly security can lead to spiritual loss.
“Whoever loses his life will keep it”
A person willing to surrender their life, desires, or security for God’s purposes will gain true spiritual life.
Main themes
Obedience to God
Detachment from worldly things
Faith during times of judgment or crisis
Sacrifice leading to eternal life
This teaching is connected to Jesus’ broader message about being ready for the coming of God’s kingdom and not turning back once committed.
